ANCIENT TRADITIONS OF HYMN WRITING

The origins of Christian hymnody lie in the hymnody and musical practices of the Jewish faith. But while hymnody is most often associated with the Christian church, there are also traditions of hymn singing in other ancient civilisations and their religions, such as those of the Greeks, Romans and Phoenicians.
