1918 : OXYRHYNCHUS HYMN

In Egypt a papyrus parchment was discovered which has written on it the text and melody of a hymn praising the Trinity. It was later established that this is the earliest fully notated text and music of a hymn. Along with Phos Hilaron it is the oldest hymn known to exist. The hymn was published in 1922 and has been sung many times since. The original parchment manuscript is kept at the Sackler Library, Oxford.
